Assembly Guide
| First step in assembling the case is to attach the mounting
plates to each drive. The thick plates will sink the heat from drive and
transfer it to the upper and lower inner plates. |
Place the drive on a flat surface while tightening the
screws to keep the two side plates parallel to each ensuring good contact
with the upper and lower inner plates. |
| Now mount each drive to the lower inner plate. The easiest
way to do this is to place the drives upside down on a flat surface and lay
the lower plate on top of the drives. Install four screws for each drive and tighten. |
With the drives mounted on the lower inner plate, the assembly is ready
to install into the case. |
| Prepare the outer case shell by removing the front and rear
panels. This will make handling the drive assembly easier when placing it
into the case.
Place a isolation pad into the recessed pocket in each corner of the
bottom outer plate.
Note: On some case models, the location of the isolation pads
recessed pockets differ. The inner assembly is mounted forward in the case.
Make sure that both the top and bottom outer plates have the recessed
pockets in the same orientation.
| With the isolation pads in place, carefully lower the inner
drive assembly into place. You may have to wiggle it back and forth a little
until each isolation pad is seated into the recess.
If you purchased the internal power supply, install the
mounting bracket on to front drive as shown using the two longer screws
provided. |
| The front and rear panel can now be reinstalled so that
connections to the rear panel can be made. The easiest way to do this is to
let the case hang off the edge of the table while the three screws are
screwed in from the bottom. You could also wait and install these screws
later after the top panel has been installed to hold everything in place. |
Connect the power cables to each drive. Use two IDE to SATA
'Y' power cables on each pair of drives. Then connect a 12" data cable
between the rear panel connector and each drive. Make sure that no cables
connectors are sticking up higher than the top of the drives otherwise the
upper plate might bind on the cable.
NOTE: At this point you could temporarily
connect the data and power cables to the host computer and test that
each drive is operating properly.
Now install the upper inner plate over the drive assembly. Install four
screws for each drive. Leave each screw about a 1/4 turn loose until all
screws are in place, then go back and tighten each screw. |
Before installing the outer plate, place a isolation pad into the
recessed pocket in each corner of the upper inner plate.
Now set the top outer plate in place. Match up the isolation pads with the recessed
pocket in the bottom of the top panel. You may have to
wiggle the top cover back and forth a little until each isolation pad is seated into
the recess. The plate should fit evenly on all sides, the pads will raise
the plate slightly (less than 1/16"). If the gap is larger than that, the
isolation pad may have moved out of the recess. When the plate is properly
installed, insert a screw into each hole and tighten the screws down evenly. |
The optional Multi-Lane bracket with power supply kit has a opening for the
power supply jack. A external AC power adapter plugs into this jack to
provide 12 volts DC to the internal power supply.
Note: The toggle switch on the bracket is no longer used. The case
has been updated with a front panel power button. |
